Jewish heritage in Warsaw. International clean-up of the Jewish cemetery on Okopowa in Warsaw.

Jewish Heritage in Warsaw is a cyclical international volunteer project run at the Jewish Cemetery on Okopowa in Warsaw. The initiative brings together people from all over the world. The participating volunteers contribute not only by cleaning the site of the historic necropolis. The event involves also a series of meetings on Jewish history and culture.

Each year, people of different nationalities and ages come to Warsaw to join forces by making a contribution to the preservation of the Jewish cemetery and tradition, driven by a shared desire to learn about the setting and the context in which the necropolis located in the capital of Poland is set. Participation in the event is an excellent opportunity to rediscover this important part of Warsaw as well as to meet new like-minded people and do something useful together.

2018

The next edition of the programme took place on 11-30 July 2018. Again, it brought together a group of several dozen people from across the whole world. One World Association from Poznań helped in organising their arrival in Poland. The volunteers were provided with the necessary equipment and gloves. They were cleaning up the necropolis from Monday to Friday. After each day of work, they were treated to a warm meal and given an opportunity to take part in interesting meetings on Jewish history and culture.

We’d like to thank the following institutions who joined the project:

– the Jewish Community in Warsaw (the Nożyk Synagogue, the Ec Chaim Synagogue, the Bródno Jewish Cemetary, the Wola Jewish Cemetery)
