Retaining wall in front of the entrance to the cemetery

In the years 2019-2020, restoration works were also carried out on the retaining wall opposite the entrance to the cemetery. The brick wall with a length of over 110 m was covered in the 1970s with a cladding of fragments of tombstones set on cement mortar, which resulted in the destruction of the brick and the wall was in danger of collapsing.

The works consisted in restoring the statics of the building, rebuilding and uncovering a brick thread. The sandstone setting with pinnacles and metal decorative elements was subjected to conservation works. The works were carried out by the service and construction company of Marek Ścigalski.

The project was supervised by dr hab. Janusz Smaza, prof. ASP. The task was carried out with the funds of the Capital City of Warsaw as part of a grant from the Office of the Capital Conservator of Monuments and thanks to the Foundation’s own funds, coming from the profits of investing in the Perpetual Fund supported by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
